It is pointless to be highly knowlegable about international affairs if we do not use our knowledge to try to make things better.
If your expertise and knowledge drives you to disagree with the suggestions put forward on this website and this page, by all means disagree, but only disagree if you can put forward a better suggestion.
This page collects suggested actions that individuals or groups can take to bring about a more peaceful world – over and above joining one of the many peace groups that exist.
Local actions
We can work in our local peace groups on observing and extending World Peace Day on September 21st each year.
Locally, we can reach out to local Christian, Muslim and Jewish leaders to discuss what they can do to bring about a more peaceful world.
Lobbying our political representatives
Most war-preventive actions involve international relationships, but we can still have an effect. MPs gauge public interest from their correspondence, and if they do not get letters on international affairs, they assume that voters are not interested, and therefore mPs and Parliament takes less interest in them.
It is important for us to communicate with our democratic representatives. We cannot expect our letters to produce an immediate change, but if many people take the trouble write, the representative knows that the desire for a more peaceful world is a widespread feeling, because they know that every letter represents the opinions of many more people who did not write.
In writing to your MP, do be civil and reasonable. Abusive language will not get them to reply. If they do not reply within 6 weeks, write and remind them, civilly, making sure you use the phrase “as your constituent”.
