Given the vast number of NGOs, activists and academics working for peace, it is reasonable to ask why we are not more effective? At least part of the answer is that each of the peace organisations is ploughing its own furrow. To some extent, NGOs are competing against each other for members. They do have coordination meetings, where information about their activities is exchanged, (Rethinking Security being one) but coordination needs to be increased, and a clear common focus on what we are trying to do might help to bring this about.
