A More Peaceful World

The 2026bNuclear NonProliferation Treaty (NNPT aka NPT) Conference in New York has closed with no agreement, and almost no comment from the billionaire-owned press.

The states with Nuclear Weapons clearly have no intention of abiding by Article VI of the treaty “to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament”. 

In a blatant display of inconsistency, the UK Government dismisses the Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) because in their view it would undermine the NNPT, although their failure to negotiate for nuclear disarmament does exactly that.  It is clear that the Government has no intention whatsoever of working for nuclear disarmament, and that they choose escalation rather than de-escalation.

In one way, nuclear disarmament is pretty complicated.

From another standpoint it is not complicated at all:

Nuclear deterrence is capable of failing.

A global nuclear war would mean the end of civilisation on Earth.

Therefore we must eliminate nuclear weapons from the face of the Earth

So the question that we need to look at is this: “Is it possible for humanity to reduce the number of nuclear weapons existing in our world to zero?”

Humans are highly intelligent animals, it is just that we do not always apply our intelligence to the big political decisions. This question, of whether or not we are capable of getting rid of nuclear weapons is one of those big political decisions.
