UN Inquiry into Israeli crimes against children

Gaza’s misery today, Israel’s misery tomorrow 

The UN’s Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory  has examined violations and crimes against Palestinian children since 7 October 2023.

Its Report finds that the Netanyahu’s regime has resulted in the death of at least 20,179  and injury of 44,143 children. Given that there have been about 75,000 deaths caused by Israel’s bombing campaign, this means that 30% of its killings have been child deaths. The report also gives details of torture and sexual violence inflicted on children and adolescents.

This is not Israel “exercising its right to defend itself” as political recipients of Israeli donations would say. It is Israel aiming to reduce the numbers of the next generation of Palestinians, and in doing so, storing up a wave of anti-Israel hatred.

It is genocide.

It is true that Israel’s actions are not identical to those of Nazis against the Jews. Israel is not actually putting Palestinians into death camps (although Gaza itself is functionally a prison) nor is is gassing and burning them (although bombs do cause fires, and to die with a concrete slab crushing your chest is not a good way to die). 

The Nazi leaders were convicted and hung for their crime of genocide. 

The Report says “331. Based on the evidence reviewed, and consistent with its previous reports, the Commission finds on reasonable grounds that the Israeli authorities and the Israeli security forces have continued to commit the crime of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in the Gaza Strip and war crimes in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem”.

The horror of the Holocaust is in a way an underlying cause of  Netanyahu’s present horrific  policies, and his policies will, sadly,  cause acts of horrific terrorism against Israeli people in the future.

Clearly our only reasonable and human response is BDS – Boycott of Israeli Goods, Divestment (withdrawal of investments from Israeli businesses) and Sanctions against Israel.
